Leopard User?
Who?
I, Leopard User, am a self-proclaimed computer geek. My first computer was an Atari 600XL with no form of storage. Thus, whenever I wanted to do something cool I had to type in my program (using Basic). Every single time. Until my parents finally purchased for me a tape recorder and my first real article of computer software: Frogger.
Since then, I have owned a Commodore 64 (2nd generation, of course), an Amiga, an IBM XT, 386SX (I couldn't afford a math co-processor), 486, and countless iterations of the chipsets from the past few years. I have experience with Windows 3.0 through XP (sorry, vista, but I bought a Mac). I have 4 years experience using Solaris, 3 years with Linux, and 2 years with OS X.
I have an Honours degree in Computer Science and a candidate for a Masters of Engineering in Software Engineering. I love to code. I love to collect wallpapers. I am Leopard User.
What?
With the increasing popularity of Apple, countless sites have popped up on the internet serving as goto sites chock-full of Mac information. Well, as good as some of them are (I'm talking about you tuaw.com), most lack that personal touch.
Enter LeopardUser.com: something fresh, something new. The purpose of this site is two-fold. First, it serves as a journal (for me) so that I may record discoveries, thoughts, etc. relating to Leopard. Second, it provides a platform (for you) to discuss my articles, opinions and so forth in a manner to enrich the knowledge of other readers.
Why?
As much as I love visiting my favourite Apple sites regularly (I'm talking about you tuaw.com!), I find that most sites out there are just compilations of current news. I want this site to be a subjective site. As much as I love my Mac, it is not without flaw. I aim to journal my experiences, good and bad, for the world to enjoy and (hopefully) learn from.
I also see this as a bridge to the rest of the Mac community. I look forward to fostering new friendships with current geeks, and new geeks.
Where?
Since I'm doing my Masters right now, a lot of time is spent in my office. This is good because my laptop is my main computer -- it commutes with me regularly between school and home. This will allow for increased focus on mobility: something that is important to many of us.
When?
Although my schedule is quite busy these days, I commit to articles at least 3-5 times a week. Not a day goes by that I don't open the lid to my laptop, and not a day goes by that I don't learn something new about my Mac. Thus, I should be able to take 10 minutes out of my day to write a well-structured article of use to you, the reader.
My baby, asleep...
